Until the 1970s, the use of asbestos was not regulated, & thousands of products contained asbestos fibers. While the most common asbestos-containing materials are construction products such as insulation & adhesives, even household goods such as talc are found to contain asbestos.
Industrial workplaces may be among the most contaminated areas, but homes, military ships & even large geographical areas are also contaminated by asbestos. However, some cases of mesothelioma have been diagnosed in people exposed to asbestos from former sources, such as through the skin or clothing of family members working with asbestos.
